There are three employees that maintain office services and facilitate grants received from EPA, Department of Forestry, BIA, and Department of Energy. A more detailed description will be given below.
General Assistance Program
The General Assistance Program is a grant received through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to establish and maintain office functions. Funds from this grant can be utilized to establish baseline data, research grants, acquire needed equipment and supplies, and maintain technical capabilities through training.
Current grant activities that are underway or are scheduled through GAP program are
- Maintain GIS capability that allows the staff to create maps as needed for program operations and at the request of tribal members and leaders.
- Open dump assessments are done on an annual basis with the assistance of the Indian Health Service. These dumps are inventoried and then placed on a database for clean up when funds are available. Clean up of dumps are scheduled to take place during the current GAP grant.
- Attend environmental training sessions or conferences to strengthen programs and to stay current with tribal issues. Attending training or conferences allows the OES department to network with other tribes in the EPA region for partnerships and/or collaborations on projects.
